Products? Like or hate – pass on your thoughts
Tell us about the make-up products you’ve tried in the past – it can be anything – because we want you to write reviews on the products you have bought over the years – and pass on your experiences.
We’ve all bought products we’ve read about being THE wonder creams or THE mascara or THE blusher. Every month of so, there’s some supposed miracle product promising better skin tone or fuller lips or longer lashes.
And we’ve all spent an absolute fortune on searching for the elixir of youth, haven’t we, only to find that the ‘miracle’ product does nothing for our complexion, or we’re actually allergic to it or it brings us out in spots. (A make-up artist told me years ago that if you have a reaction to any product – take it back and you will get a refund. That’s what I do and the beauty counters have always given me my money back.)
Over the years, we have discovered that many expensive creams are just that – expensive; trading on their brand’s reputation and not actually delivering on quality.
And we’ve all had that daunting experience – why we feel intimidated at beauty counters, beats me, but we do sometimes – of asking some advice of the reps in large department stores. Whether it’s because we don’t feel we have enough knowledge or fear we will get sold something we don’t want; or because it’s all done under bright lights; it can be a bizarre experience.
If you work at a beauty counter – please write in and tell us your stories from the other side… we know there’s always two sides to the story.
Yummymummybeauty is a completely independent beauty magazine – we’re not writing about products because beauty companies are paying us to. Our reviews are 100 per cent truthful, unbiased and from real reviewers – real mums like you.
So with this in mind – get writing to us.
If we get enough reviews we can start compiling some real truthful guidance for all you beauty addicts out there – and that pretty much covers the entire female population…
So email us at info@yummymummybeauty.com – and put ‘review’ in the subject box. At the top of your message – write the full name of the product; as it appears on the bottle/tube/pot – and then give it a rating… Oh and give yourself a beauty nickname if you don’t want to put your real one in – we’ll have your address, so all will be authentic. Sound good?
Looking forward to hearing from you…

I’ll kick us off – I write many of the reviews in this magazine and I do try to feature the best out there. But there are products that I just don’t like. And I’m not afraid to say so. I am a stickler for the truth – I’ll tell you straight.

Darphin Hydraskin Serum, £41 5/5
Age: 40s
Skin type: fair
Eyes: green
Skin: combination
Hair: dark blonde
I have combination skin but I’m pretty lucky with genes; so it’s pretty trouble free. So with this in mind; I like Darphin Hydraskin Serum. I feel it nourishes my skin, sinking in well – leaving it feeling softer and smoother. It also gives my complexion a gentle flush just after application. I like using a serum – I think 30 and 40 somethings should make sure they use one before applying their usual moisturiser. This one for me was an enjoyable product to use and when I ran out, I really missed it. My skin looked good – no spots or dragging. Great smell too. Have you tried this product and not liked it? Do you have oily skin but love it too. Do you have dry skin and hate it? Let us know…

MAC Mineralize skinfinish natural (light blush) 2/5
Skin type: fair
Eyes: green
Skin: combination
Hair: dark blonde
I wanted to love this. It promised shimmer and sunshine on the grey days of summer. I liked it at first and it looked great (plus generally I love what comes out of the MAC stable, so I was eager to add it into my ‘every day’ make-up). But for some reason, this one just languishes in my make-up bag. When I’m looking for a bit of colour, I’ll use a bronzer or a blusher – and this one gets left behind. That said, I’ve never been a powder fan, but I feel this gives too much of a pearly glow and that for me just doesn’t feel natural. My skin felt too made-up and I prefer a more wholesome – without being down on the farm – look. Maybe for girls in their 20s? Have you tried this or similar? Let us know.
