Christmas party make-up tips

If you’re heading from the office directly to a party and do not want to remove all of your make-up and start again, here are some tips to go from day to night, says Marie McKeever, Clarins UK Head of Treatment Development. •             If your eye make-up has creased or run, blot the area gently with a tissue, thenuse a brush or sponge to smooth out the remaining colour. Apply a little translucent pressed powder over the area to catch any excess oil and then top up … [Read more...]

Bobbi Brown Christmas Eyes

By Tara Adamson As it's nearly Christmas, I need absolutely no encouragement to go out and buy some new eyeshadows just in time for the start of the party season. There are plenty of pretty ones out there, but these two limited edition collections in particular caught my eye.     Bellini Lip & Eye Palette, £59 "Our toast-of-the-town collection features an array of colors for lips and eyes – all in a mirrored compact. Ten eye shadows in mix-and-match textures create … [Read more...]

Waterproof make-up

By Tara Adamson The holiday season is still upon us as the Indian summer conditions heat up the end of our summer. And many of us are making up for the lack of sunshine by jetting off in the October break. So if you're off to the sun, heading off on a stay-cation; or just sticking around at home, like me, you'll still want to look great and maintain a little femininity. We really don't want to end up with panda eyes; having been caught in the rain, drenched by your kids in the pool; or with … [Read more...]

*** Gym belles Did you know that seven out of 10 women admit to putting make-up on before going to the gym and a third of women wear foundation for a flawless face while working out. (And I know that's true because when running a 10k last year, I ran with women who were all 'dolled' up and the gorgeous mixtures of perfume as you ran passed was such a pleasant change from the normal sweat you'd expect, Elaine.) Water-proof mascara is a must to avoid panda eyes and the same care should be … [Read more...]

Ed’s blog

Well there we were. Sitting in a micro-lodge in Scotland's Crail - an East coast fishing town and looking out to sea. Our Lifestyle Ed Shona, or Lady MacLean as her husband Jeremy calls her sometimes, was looking for the fridge and the kettle... "And where are the toilets?" she asked innocently. Shared came my reply. Amazing how little she went to the loo, bless her. So with six children between us, we shoehorned ourselves into these micro lodges - which are about the size of your kitchen table … [Read more...]

Tried Before You Buy – foundations

By Tara Adamson Yummy mummy Tara Adamson has been on a beauty mission for more than two decades. She’s been testing creams, mascaras, (she has a thing about mascaras), make-up, lip gloss, blushers, shadows – oh you get the picture – from the moment she first watched her mother apply her red lipstick and pat her face with Ponds. So now that Tara, who has two young sons, Henry, nine, and Olly, seven, is in her very early forties, that mission has turned into a quest for the Holy … [Read more...]
