Ed’s blog – Clare Trodden

Oh mama! What a month it’s been. While the wet, gloomy weather has been on most people’s minds, some of us have had lots to celebrate and our days have been illuminated by very special rays of sunshine.

But into every life some rain must fall… For me that’s been the agony of not being able to visit my new great niece, who arrived a couple of weeks ago.

Photos have been emailed on a daily basis and I’ve heard the power of little Ruby Natasha’s lungs during phone chats with yummy mummy Rosie, but a nasty and lingering sickness bug I picked up on holiday in Portugal has ruled out visits. And it’s driving me mad. I can’t wait to get my hands on that precious babe.

I’ll be paying a visit too to the lovely Lucy, the newest arrival of our sleep-deprived but very glam mama, Laura Davidson. How does that woman look so good and get a great column together so soon after giving birth? You can read all about it in the latest instalment of Laura’s Diary.

I don’t know a woman who doesn’t multi-task, but there are few who can do it with as much style and sophistication as Joanna Lumley, our Celebrity Yummy. That voice, those looks. She’s been an award-winning actress, a model, author and tireless campaigner for human rights, including the Gurkha Justice Campaign and many other projects. She’s also a vegetarian and supporter of animal charities. And she makes us laugh. I will never tire of watching her as Patsy in abFab and laugh even at the thought of the episode where she was clambering drunkenly around the luggage carousel at the airport.

Holidays, or at least our excuse for a summer, are on our minds at the moment. While those raindrops are working wonders in the garden and plants are going wild. So, our special gardening feature will keep you looking good as you weed, mow or hoe.

Tara’s has been putting on a brave and very attractive face on your behalf and has plenty of advice about removing waterproof make-up – well some of us maybe jumping into azure pools in the sunshine this summer. Not us here at yummymummybeauty.com; we’re ‘glamping’ in Scotland but more of that from Elaine next month.

With the children already on school holidays, or eagerly anticipating them, the school run’s not a problem, but you’ll need a quick fix more than ever, so I’ve been trying the most uplifting scent from Liz Earle, a little treat from Paul & Joe, Sisley’s fabulous factor 50 luxury face cream and Estee Lauder has been helping enhance a fast-fading tan.

Whatever the weather, Devon’s a great destination – take a trip to our travel section to find out what makes it such a good option for a family holiday.

And we just have to tell you about a great little range that we discovered just by chance. Bet you have never heard of Henry Tianus? Well let us enlighten you.

Where do we start? These are the ones we tried. The Henry Tianus anti-oxidant Youthful Essence – normal to dry skin, £48.50; Henry Tianus Rose Antioxidant Cream, £38, and Henry Tianus BioCollagen Ageless Eye Cream, £60.

And oh wow, did we love them! The Rose Antioxident Cream is quite concentrated and you have to love the rose scent to enjoy it – but it moisturises your skin well and leaves it with a dewy glow. The Youthful Essence we weren’t that sold on – it was ok; one that is more to complement than standing alone. But we have definitely saved the best for last.

Get writing this one down. Now all us women of a certain age have a certain softness shall we say around our eyes. The skin here is so fragile and eventually it goes a bit ‘crepy’ in places – and then the bags descend and circles… oh it’s a crowded little place. But there is help in the form of Henry Tianus BioCollagen Ageless Eye Cream, £60. Now we have tried so many eye creams over the years, it really takes something special to make you sit up and check the mirror again and again and again… And that’s what you will be doing once you’ve used this. It seems to moisturise, soften and tighten – and lasts all day. Wowser – if you only buy one beauty product this month, buy this one! From Henry Tianus Advanced Natural Cosmeceuticals, The natural alternative to surgeries and toxic injections. www.henrytianus.com

So, there is plenty to enjoy this month.

And, if it keeps on raining, don the wellies and waterproofs and splash about in puddles – aren’t small children a great excuse sometimes? Or stick on a few of your favourite stomping, summer tracks and bop around the kitchen with the kids.

A special Congratulations to all with new arrivals. Hopefully, by the time you read this, I’ll be given the all-clear and up for great-auntie duties. So, move over gorgeous grandmamas, I’m coming in.
