Ed’s blog – Tara Adamson, deputy editor

Hello there, and a very warm welcome to the June edition of yummymummybeauty. I’m stepping into the Editor’s shoes for the Ed’s blog this month … and what a mag we have in store for you.

Laugh out loud when you read our diary of a pregnant yummy, Laura Davidson, who was eagerly waiting her arrival when we went to press, and of course see what the seriously yummy Michelle Mone, below right, has to say about mums and business.

She is one of the UK’s most successful female entrepreneurs and founder of international lingerie brand, Ultimo. Plus she was famously the inspiration behind Julia Roberts’ cleavage in Erin Brockovich and has just launched her new beauty range Ultimo beauty.

We also have a great feature on babies and brain development and another one on how to get a little more energy. Just sit down, glass of wine in hand and enjoy…

I still can’t believe we’re in June; half way through the year already, can you? Even my two boys were saying the other day that they couldn’t believe that they only have a matter of weeks left until the end of the school year.  It’s scary how the time flies so quickly.

What I do love at this time of year is walking through fields awash with yellow rape flowers, being dive-bombed by swallows and bees, or running (yes, I know it’s a rare occurrence) through our local woods which are a sea of bluebells underneath a canopy of bright new green leaves (though sadly not with my dog, who is lame.  Again.)

The hedgerows are exploding with colour; cow parsley, buttercups, dandelions, and masses of pinks and blues.  It’s so beautiful and cheers the soul, as it feels like we’ve now had endless weeks of rain with the odd okayish day thrown in.  The only advantage is that the ‘drought’ has now been called off.  BGT has finally finished (thank goodness! Congratulations to Pudsey and Ashleigh) and of course the Voice is no more.

I’ve had a busy month, all in the name of beauty!  Some of the latest products I’ve been reviewing this month are the hotly awaited new capsule collection from the very lovely Liz Earle, I’ve been testing out some of the latest BB creams for my Tried Before You Buy Column, and experimenting with some of the latest masks, shampoos, conditioners and serums for our Summer Hair feature so our tresses radiate health and vitality.
I’ve wanted to cheer myself up from the very dreary, damp days we’ve been having and tried a couple of products from L’Occitane’s beautiful new Pivoine Delicate collection (Peonies, to you & me); a gorgeous Hand Cream (£14 for 75ml) enriched with shea butter and vitamin E which left even my dry hands beautifully moisturised, softened and delicately perfumed with the gorgeous tender floral scent.

But the one thing they sent me which has really captured my heart (and, oddly
enough, my children’s hearts) is L’Occitane’s Pivone Delicate delicately perfumed Shimmering Powder (£22 for 8g), above.  Elegantly presented in a pretty vintage inspired glass bottle with pink squeezy pump, this gorgeously girlie powder soothes, beautifies and illuminates skin and hair with subtle pinky/silvery iridescent sparkles – stunning.

I’m sure it’s to do with weather (and not to do with the fact that I’ve not been having my quota of 3 AFD’s each week, or because I may have been overindulging in chocolate and biscuits recently,) but I keep getting a very unpleasant little crop of incredibly sore spots on my chin!  Yes, even at my age, we still get the odd one or three!

At long last, I have found The Best spot cream ever!  Darphin’s Skin Mat Blemish Clearing Gel (£20 for 15ml) is a super fast acting, fast drying, zit zapper.  Enriched with salicylic acid, geranium, niaouli, sage and lavender essential oils, this clear gel dries to an invisible layer and helps to dry and clear blemishes while purifying pores, helping to prevent new breakouts.

When my boys become teenagers, I may be buying this by the bucketload.

Happy reading, Love, Tara xx
